"Cost of Quality" - though we use this term often, but from my long enough experience with quality management consulting - I find that people don't understand what and how of it.

Measuring the cost of quality involves assessing both the costs of conformance (preventing defects) and the costs of non-conformance (dealing with defects).

How you can measure the cost of quality:

Identify the different costs involved in quality management, such as prevention costs (e.g., training, quality planning), appraisal costs (e.g., inspections, testing), internal failure costs (e.g., rework, scrap), and external failure costs (e.g., warranty claims, returns). Analyse properly - what elements are important - we can help you identify these objectively.

Collect data on these various costs from different departments within your organization. This is quite complex. How to get these cost elements measured? It should be top down messaging. We can assist you to identify where to measure and how to measure

Calculate the total cost of quality by summing up all the costs related to both conforming to quality standards and failing to meet them.

Analyze the data to identify trends, patterns, and areas where costs can be reduced by improving quality processes. Standardised tool sets will help to do the analysis - and we can build a custom easy to use tool.

Use the calculated cost of quality as a metric to track improvements over time and make informed decisions to optimize quality management practices.

By measuring the cost of quality, organizations can better understand the financial implications of their quality management efforts and make strategic decisions to enhance overall quality while minimizing costs.

We are there to support you - we can help your team to understand the importance, create process for collection and then optimizing the process for less cost of quality from both conformance and performance perspective.
